When U.S. Air Force fighter planes wanted to refuel on a training exercise in Japanese airspace they called for a tanker – from California.
A KC-46A Pegasus flew 10 hours from Travis Air Force Base, located about 50 miles from San Francisco, to provide an on-time fuel delivery to F-16s training near Misawa Air Base in Japan.
The KC-46A can carry 212,000 pounds of fuel and deliver to more than 20 types of aircraft to date, but it has other capabilities, including sharing real-time data with the fleet.
And with more than 90 in operation, it’s a plane that can bridge distance and project power, even over the vast Pacific.
