The new Space Race is here and the United States must be prepared to compete and win. Adversarial nations are investing significant resources in space exploration, which puts America’s role as the global space leader in jeopardy.

In order for our country to maintain its leadership role, Congress must support NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) and the Artemis program. With the necessary funding to ensure a regular cadence of missions in the coming years, the US will cement its place as a global leader in space.

Importantly, federal funding for NASA’s flagship Artemis program will not only enable missions to continue, but it will also provide stability in the US supply chain supporting the manufacturing of this incredible rocket. More than 96,400 American workers in every state contribute to the SLS rocket and the annual investment by NASA translates into more than $23.8 billion in total economic output. Such stability will sustain family-supporting jobs, invigorate local and state economies, and keep overall program costs down for taxpayers.

NASA’s Artemis missions will return humans to the lunar surface for the first time in more than 50 years. It will establish a sustainable presence at the moon and prepare for a crewed mission to Mars. It opens the possibilities of extensive scientific discovery in deep space and a new era of exploration.

This powerful rocket is irreplaceable to our nation’s long-term space strategy. Congress must prioritize it’s continued funding to establish America’s leadership role in space.

While there are many funding considerations before Congress, as your constituent, I urge you to prioritize financial support for SLS through the first human landings on the Moon and beyond. Your support will allow for the development, production, and continuous improvement of the world’s most capable rocket. In turn, the Artemis Missions will establish America as the global leader in space for generations to come.
