Congress has historically supported the USAF's efforts to field the F-15EX across active duty, reserve, and Air National Guard components. However, the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has raised concerns regarding the sufficiency of tactical fighter capacity to meet combatant commander warfighting requirements at an acceptable level of risk. Sustaining F-15EX production is vital for the affordable preservation of fighter missions at strategic bases nationwide, ensuring that the USAF can maintain the necessary capabilities. The procurement of 24 aircraft in FY26 will facilitate the recapitalization of an additional tactical fighter squadron, allowing the USAF to expand its much-needed fighter capacity while keeping the critical F-15EX production line operational for future domestic and international sales.
